Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 11:54 AM HST Feb. 18, 2018 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* flood advisory for...
the island of Maui in Maui County

* until 245 PM HST

* at 1160 am HST, radar indicated heavy rain developing over several
areas of Maui, with rain especially intense over the windward
slopes of Haleakala between Huelo and Hana and Kaupo, and over
south Maui, upslope from Makena and Wailea. Rain was falling at a
rate of two to three inches per hour in the heaviest showers.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
all of east and south Maui.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to
flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don't drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 245 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* flood advisory for...
the island of Molokai in Maui County

* until 245 PM HST

* at 1145 am HST, radar indicated that very heavy rain was nearly
stationary over most of north and east Molokai, with rain falling
at a rate of two to three inches per hour. This will lead to rapid
rises in streams.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
Hoolehua, Kawela, Kualapuu, Kalaupapa National Park, Pukoo, Halawa
Valley, Kaunakakai, Kamalo and Ualapue.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 245 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

313 am HST sun Feb 18 2018

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Kahoolawe, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Niihau, Oahu and The
Big Island.

* Through Monday afternoon.

* Abundant low level moisture over the eastern and central parts
of the state will spread westward to Kauai today. A strong
upper level trough approaching the state will produce unstable
conditions that will generate heavy showers and thunderstorms.

* Due to increasing instability, heavy showers and thunderstorms
could develop rapidly. Heavy rainfall could affect urban and
leeward areas, which are more susceptible to flooding
problems.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a dangerous situation.

Please monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should
flash flood warnings be issued.
