Lake Effect Snow Warning
Issued: 2:25 PM EST Dec. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect from 11 am Thursday
to 7 am EST Friday...

* locations... northern Oneida County.

* Accumulations... total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches,
mainly late Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, and also
close to the Oswego and Lewis County lines.

* Timing... although some snow showers are expected Thursday
afternoon, the primary lake-effect snow band should move into
the region late in the day or early Thursday evening, likely
between 4 and 8 PM. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are
possible late Thursday night. Steadier and heavier lake snows
should shift south of the region Friday morning.

* Impacts... the heavy snow will make travel difficult, and some
roads may become impassable. Gusty winds may result in
considerable blowing and drifting.

* Winds... west 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures... in the mid to upper 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A lake effect snow warning means significant amounts of lake-
effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or
impossible. Lake-effect snow showers typically align themselves in
bands and will likely be intense enough to drop 1 to several
inches of snow per hour for several hours. Visibilities vary
greatly and can drop to zero within minutes. Travel is strongly
discouraged. Commerce could be severely impacted. If you must
travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.
