Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, November 23, 2008.
A strong low pressure system will trek across Central and Eastern Europe during the day on Sunday, bringing a substantial amount of rain and snow to the region. A line of heavy rain and snow will extend from Moscow, through Belarus and Ukraine, and down into Turkey. The precipitation will be mostly rain from Moscow down to eastern Ukraine and Turkey, while the rest of the heaviest of the precipitation will be mostly snow. The rain over Moscow and Ukraine is expected to switch over to snow by the end of the day. Blustery winds will persist for most of the day across the entire region.
The center of the low pressure system will move from Belarus and Ukraine to the Baltic countries as the day progresses. Winds should strengthen before noon around the Baltic region, southern Finland, and near Saint Petersburg, while heavy snowfall will begin sometime between midmorning and noon on Sunday. Helsinki and Saint Petersburg could potentially see several inches of snow during the day. Meanwhile, the precipitation over Ukraine will taper off to light showers by the end of the day as the storm moves off to the north.
Clouds and light snowfall are expected over most of Central Europe, including Scandinavia, and parts of France, Germany, and Italy as a result of this system.
A second, but weaker, low pressure system will move in over Western Europe around noon or the early afternoon on Sunday. The British Isles will see light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds as a result of this new system. Mainland Europe can also expect light to moderate rain, with snow expected in parts of France, Germany, and northern Italy. Spain and Portugal will see little, if any, of the precipitation associated with this system.
