... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect from 9 am Thursday to
midnight EST Thursday night...

The Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 9 am Thursday
to midnight EST Thursday night.

* Areas affected: portions of central and eastern Virginia...
including the Metro Richmond area... Tri-Cities and the middle
peninsula of eastern Virginia.

* Hazards: snow and sleet... then snow late Thursday afternoon through
early Thursday evening.

* Timing: rain will mix with sleet by mid to late Thursday
morning. A transition to a snow/sleet mix is expected Thursday
afternoon. Precipitation ends as all snow by late afternoon through
early Thursday evening.

* Accumulations: snow and sleet 1 to 3 inches... 2 to 4 inches
possible across the north. Trace amounts of ice all areas.

* Temperatures: mid 30s... falling into the upper 20s by early
Thursday evening.

* Winds: north 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

* Impacts: roads will become snow covered by mid to late
afternoon Thursday. Visibilities will drop to around a quarter-
   mile at times Thursday afternoon and early evening... making
travel dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
