Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

The Nation will continue to see relatively stagnant weather on Wednesday as afternoon thunderstorms develop in the East and the Northwest continues to see cool, wet weather.

The Northeast will see another day of afternoon showers and thunderstorms as the disorganized frontal boundaries that have been lingering around for the last few days continue their snails pace drift eastward. Thunderstorms are anticipated from the Carolinas through coastal Maine, with the bulk of precipitation expected in the southern Appalachians.

Further south, wet weather should end on Wednesday, with clear skies building into the Gulf Coast states.

Clear skies are also anticipated throughout the Plains, but the Northern Plains will see cloud cover move in as some rain approaches from the West. The precipitation will be most pronounced over the Dakotas in the morning, then into Minnesota by afternoon.

Further west Precipitation will increase a bit in coverage as moisture streams into the Northwest. Most of Washington, Oregon and Idaho will see Precipitation on Wednesday.

The nation’s biggest weather shift will come to Florida, where heavy rain will move into southern portions of the state as moisture associated with the remains of Tropical Storm Alberto rain themselves out across the western Atlantic.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington NC has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
central Marlboro County in northeast South Carolina
northeastern Darlington County in northeast South Carolina

* until 315 PM EDT

* at 209 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail... and
damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located near
Dovesville... or 9 miles northeast of Hartsville... and moving
northeast at 20 mph.

* Locations in the warning include but are not limited to...
   Mont Clare...
   Bennettsville...
   Clio...

More dangerous thunderstorms may develop and affect other communities
in the warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Severe thunderstorms produce damaging wind in excess of 60 mph...
destructive hail... deadly lightning and heavy rain. For your
protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home
or business.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT

At 205 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms over
Floyd... or about 6 miles north of Darlington... moving northeast at 20
mph.

Some locations impacted include Bennettsville... Darlington...
Florence... Auburn... Bingham... Brownsville... Chavistown... Claussen...
Clio... Darlington raceway... Dovesville and Dunbar.

Hazards include...
pea size hail.
Gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph.

Heavy rainfall and minor flooding.

Thunderstorms can pose a variety of threats including gusty winds...
small hail... cloud to ground lightning... and localized flooding. It
is recommended that you remain indoors until the storms pass.

..the boating topic today is understanding marine forecasts...

Understanding a marine forecast is critical to safe boating. Typical
marine forecasts predict wind speed and direction... wave heights and
significant weather. Take particular note of any current advisories
or warnings.

Special marine warnings are issued for strong thunderstorms which
produce winds in excess of 40 mph. Marine warnings are also issued
for waterspouts... large hail... or sudden wind-shifts.

You should have a vhf radio with built in NOAA Weather Radio
channels onboard. If you venture beyond 25 nautical miles from shore
you should consider getting an hf transceiver or a satellite phone.
