A cold front will extend from the Ohio Valley down to the Southern Plains on Tuesday, providing precipitation for the central part of the country. The Ohio Valley and the Mid-Mississippi Valley will see mostly clouds and light rainfall from the front, while parts of the the Southern Plains will see most of the heavy precipitation throughout the day on Tuesday. The front will trigger areas of heavy rain and possibly some thunderstorms across parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, while higher elevations across New Mexico can expect snow. Meanwhile, high pressure will build in behind the front across the Northern Plains and parts of the Upper Midwest, keeping skies clear for most of the day.

A second cold front will push its way over the Pacific Northwest on Tuesday, producing rain across the region in the morning, with snow possible at higher elevations. Skies will partially clear later in the day as high pressure begins to move in behind the front.

The Northeast can expect mostly clear skies for the first half of the day on Tuesday before clouds begin to move in ahead of the front during the afternoon and evening hours. However, the states along the coast will stay clear for most of the day as the clouds will not reach those states until overnight on Tuesday and going into Wednesday. To the south, sunny skies will prevail across the Southeast due to high pressure across the region. Meanwhile, the advancing cold front from the west will drag warmer air from the Gulf northward, resulting in above average temperatures for all of the East Coast on Tuesday.

Warm temperatures are also expected across the southeast from California out to parts of Nevada and Arizona due to a ridge over the region, while the tail end of the cold front across the central part of the country will produce rain over parts of New Mexico and Colorado, with snow likely in the higher elevations.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 8 degrees at Copper Mountain, Colo to a high of 93 degrees at Alice, Texas.
