... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 4 am Saturday to 4 am EST
Sunday...
The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Winter
Storm Warning for heavy snow... which is in effect from 4 am
Saturday to 4 am EST Sunday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer
in effect.
A developing storm system over the Southern Plains states will
head east to the lower Ohio River valley by daybreak Saturday.
This low pressure area will spread a large area of steady snow
into the area very late tonight into Saturday evening... before
tapering to periods of light snow or snow showers Saturday night.
Storm total snow accumulations of 6 to 8 inches are likely across
much of the warning area by late Saturday night... with some of the
higher elevations near the Interstate 80 corridor seeing up to 10
inches.
Snowfall to the south of Route 22 may be up to a few inches
less... in the 4 to 6 inch range. Some sleet could briefly mix in
with the snow across Somerset County later Saturday afternoon
into early Saturday evening.
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means a significant amount
of snow is forecast that will make travel dangerous. If you must
travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... blanket and a cellular
phone in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Stay tuned to NOAA
