Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to move in a generally southerly direction over the northeast Highlands and plains as well as the Sangre de Cristo Mountains early this evening. Some of the storms will produce one half to 1 inch rain amounts with frequent cloud to ground lightning and pea to half inch diameter sized hail. The strongest storms through 800 PM will impact the area west of Raton along State Road 555 southward across Dawson...Maxwell...Springer and along Highway 56 to The Union County line. Other strong storms will remain over rural San Miguel County southwest of Trementina.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an
* Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for... central Colfax County in northeast New Mexico
* until 915 PM MDT
* at 719 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated heavy rain in association with a cluster of showers and thunderstorms. Radar estimates indicate that these storms are capable of produce between an inch and an inch and a half of rain per hour... which will likely lead to flooding of low spots and drainage channels.
* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small streams and over low water crossings.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.

... Strong thunderstorms moving over northwest Colfax County...
At 638 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms... capable of producing winds up to 50 mph and hail up to one half inch in diameter 18 miles northwest of Raton crews Airport. Movement was south at 5 mph.
Locations in the path of this storm include rural north central Colfax County.
These storms were not producing severe weather at this time. However... persons in the path of this storm are advised to monitor the weather situation closely. Listen for possible warnings and be prepared to take appropriate action.
