... Winter Weather Advisory for black ice is in effect from 9 PM
this evening through 10 am EST Friday...

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for for black ice... which is in effect from 9 PM
this evening through 10 am EST Friday.

* Locations... all of the central and northern Piedmont... and the
central and northern coastal plain of North Carolina. This
includes the Triangle... The Triad region... Albemarle...
Roxboro... and Rocky Mount.

* Hazard types... .black ice is expected tonight across much of
central North Carolina.

* Timing... from mid-evening through late morning Friday.

* Impacts... freezing of residual snow... slush... and water on area
roads will result in icy and dangerous travel conditions
tonight and Friday morning. In addition... walkways and sidewalks
may be slippery and dangerous to walk on.

* Temperatures... readings will drop below freezing by 9 PM this
evening... and won't rise above freezing until 10 am Friday. Low
temperatures will range from the lower 20s northeast to the mid
to upper 20s southwest... and perhaps even colder around
locations that have deeper snow cover.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

The best way to avoid problems with black ice is to simply avoid
travel tonight and Friday morning if possible. If you must
travel... take it easy and drive slower... leave plenty of following
distance and exercise extreme caution.

Airport NC yesterday... February 25th. This breaks the old record of
0.6 set in 1964.
